Lost Weekend

(photo source: The Block Magazine, Issue 19)

Just want to let you all know that there won’t be any new posts until Monday or Tuesday of next week. I’ll be out of town and out of time, so… see you soon.

New Designer Fashion Grand Prix

Take a look at some of the winning designs from the 2008 New Designer Fashion Grand Prix. I love the accompanying sketches, which give some insight into the whole design and construction process. Every year many young Japanese designers rank highly in this competition, proving the innovation that is coming out of the East. Keep in mind that 722 schools participate every year, with entries from 61 different countries. By going to the Official Website, you can see who has been pre-selected for the 2009 competition.

Shohei Furuuchi, Japan
“Flower”

Juri Kang, Korea
“New Standard”

Satoko Ozawa, Japan
“Take Off The Skin”

Miri Uhm, Korea
“Homelessness”

Puppy Love

Once again I had no time to write today. I am getting my Vancouver Fashion Week ticket tomorrow though, super excited! The photo above is just something that was stored away on my computer. If you know where it’s from, please let me know!

Posh Vintage

I found this great website today while searching for designer vintage online. PoshVintage.com has a wide variety of memorable designer pieces (from YSL to Givenchy), to unique, less recognizable items. They’re based out of Miami, and let you check out their showroom if you call in advance. Most of their stuff is from the 60’s and 70’s, with the occasional older gem to be found. Look below for some of the things that caught my eye.

Also, here’s the photo of me taken on the street by Charles of Sartorial Vancouver! I think that I look like the wind is about to blow me over (which could have been the case)…

Zipper Magazine

One of my absolute favourite Japanese magazines is Zipper, because of its super fun aesthetic. I haven’t found anywhere to buy it in Vancouver yet, but I’m still searching. One of my favourite editions was when they interviewed people studying at all of the major fashion and beauty colleges in Japan, to see what the curriculum was like. A great regular feature is that they show you how to recreate a ton of new, stylish hairstyles. Something unique to this magazine is that nearly all of the models are just regular girls, from university students to salon staff. Check out these style snaps of some of the girls in their everyday attire.

Shopping & Street Style

While walking around downtown I ran into a fashion photographer who stopped me to take a few photos for his street style website! As soon as they’re up, I’ll post a link. Also, I spent the day looking for a nice leather jacket… and found one. Pictures later. What a day! The featured photo is just a cool jacket that I found online. I love it because jackets of this length (or a bit shorter) make your upper body look longer, and by using denim it makes the whole look more playful and young.

Vintage Louis Vuitton Ad

Not enough time to write today, so I leave you with this eerie old Louis Vuitton ad, found here. Does anyone know when this is from? It brings a whole new light to the concept of suffering for fashion.

今日私は忙しすぎだから、書くことができない!この昔からのLOUIS VUITTON写真を見てください。何年からがしらないけど面白い考えですよね。
